How to become a BARCS memberFirst, if you have not done so already, you must join the Academy of Model Aeronautics. The AMA is the chartering organization for more than 2,400 model airplane clubs across the country, providing sanctioned flying events, insurance, and assistance in getting and keeping flying sites. Prospective members may join the AMA via the internet by visiting www.modelaircraft.org or by filling out an application found in any issue of Model Aviation, a magazine published by the Academy of Model Aeronautics.Read over a copy of the BARCS constitution and Bylaws.Download a copy of the BARCS membership application.Fill out the application and attach a check for $49.00 made payable to BARCS. Annual dues are $24.00 with a one time $25.00 new member fee.Mail the completed application and check to:BARCSP.O. Box 297Robertsdale, Al. 36567Your application for membership will be voted on at the next BARCS regular meeting.Meanwhile, stay in contact with your sponsor and enjoy flying at our field as his or her guest until your application is voted on.Our flying field is very precious to our club. In an effort to ensure the safety of members, guests, and property, all new members must be “checked” out by one of the club instructors prior to open flying at the field. This checkout/certification will be an inspection of the model’s basic setup, overall safety of the aircraft, along with a radio check, range check, and the pilot’s ability to safely assemble, fuel, start, take off, fly, and land the aircraft. Pilots not able to complete the checkout satisfactorily or new student pilots will work with one of the club instructors until the basic requirements are met. Instructors will notify the club secretary of new pilots meeting the requirements who will in turn issue a flight certification card enabling the new pilot to open flying at the club field. If you have any questions regarding becoming a member of BARCS, please feel free to contact any of the club officers. |
